SCHENECTADY - Carmella Gallo, 96, of Schenectady at rest Sunday, May 23, 2004 surrounded by her loving family.
Carmella was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Antonio and Angela Mary Malgieri, natives of Dugenta, Italy. The Malgieri family returned to Dugenta where Carmella spent her youth. At the age of 15, Carmella returned to Schenectady and remained until her death. Carmella was the product of two world cultures, American and European, which gave her unique parental skills, evidenced in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also skilled in hand-work to a degree that others in the community marveled.
She was the beloved wife of the late Angelo Gallo (1980); beloved mother of Simeo Gallo (Shirley) of Baton Rouge, LA.; Michael J. Gallo (Susan) of Vooheesville, Anthony A. Gallo (Carol) of Olean, N.Y., Louise A. Spataro (the late Anthony of Niskayuna; beloved sister of Assunta Gallo of Schenectady, Michael Malgieri, Philomena Massaro, Josehine Malgieri, all of Dugenta. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin Tuesday 10:45 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam followed at 11:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Pleasant St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Internment, St. Cyril Cemetery, Rotterdam.
